Situated on a steep hillside, the house is envisioned as a floating glass volume with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. A masonry base and tower act as visual counterpoints, and a series of terraces formed by cast-in-place concrete retaining walls anchor the house firmly to the hillside. A winding approach negotiates the ascent and culminates in steps leading to the entry. Within the house, operable panels made of perforated metal form a scrim that veils and unveils the glass volume, creating interplays of light/shadow, open/closed, void/mass.
